Your path to a purposeful career

Finding your purpose. It’s become a bit of a buzzword, hasn’t it? An entire generation (and now parts of previous generations as well) are striving for a job that not only offers an attractive paycheck but is also fulfilling and singing. In other words, it has a purpose.

But what is a career led by purpose and how do I find it? I will answer these questions in this blog post.

Why a purposeful career matters so much

Around us, new surveys keep popping up that all have the same tendency. More and more people are looking for meaning in their work. After all, our working hours have a price. It is the time we do not spend with our children or our partner. Especially for families who live a global life, this is a high price. You don’t just casually be mental support for your family between jobs. You don’t just create the feeling of home and security overnight. You don’t make friends right from the start, and once you’ve really arrived, it’s not unusual for you to be thinking about moving to a new place. In this context, many expat partners ask themselves even more what value work actually has for them. Many of my clients want to work, develop, grow and receive recognition. At the same time, they do not want to lose flexibility and family time. A difficult balancing act.

Join us for a cozy and fun Vision Board workshop. Together with other women around the globe, I introduce you to the concept of visualization of your goals. We start with some essential value work to reflect what is important to you and end with you having a finished vision board in your hand.

The key questions that will lead you to the path of finding a career with purpose

The first step is usually the most difficult and this is no different with this topic. The first step is to define the WHAT. What brings you joy? Which topic could you talk about for hours? To what higher goal do you attach many things? Are you someone who likes to be there for others? Or are you a solution-oriented person who enjoys getting to the bottom of unresolved issues? Are you more of a generalist or a specialist? There are many questions to clarify in this step. A few helpful questions to get the whole thing going are:

What brings you joy? What topic never gets boring?

What to do with the answers to these questions?

Take your time with these answers. Discuss it with friends and partners who know you well. In my coaching, I like to use a variety of different exercises to get to the bottom of these questions. From each coaching tool, we draw some new insights, and in the end, together with the insights from our conversations, we form a coherent picture. Often it is even helpful to discuss these questions not with someone who already has a preconceived image of you but with someone who is not biased.
