Visualization is a powerful tool that can take your goal setting to the next level. It is a common technique in coaching and I found it to be very useful with my Expat clients. In this article, I introduce you to the basic concept and I will show you my favorite exercise for new Expats who are on their journey figuring out what they want to achieve during their time abroad.

Manage your expat package expenses
Bigger companies often offer a standardized Expat Package which is covering for basic needs like housing, healthcare, etc. These Expat Partner Packages often include a specific budget for the expat partner to find a job abroad. This money can be spent on CV translations, culture trainings, language courses or even for retraining like I did when I started my journey to become a coach. Many companies offer an Expat Package for their employees to provide support.
What if there is no expat package?
Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get enough financial support from your partner’s employer. These support packages are not a guarantee for success on the local job hunt. What you mostly need lies within you already: drive, persistence, and patience. You need to define a strategy for yourself on how you want to approach your career during your time abroad – with or without an Expat Package.
Track your budget expenses
If you find yourself in the position to have access to an Expat Package I only can recommend you to use it wisely. At the very beginning, I set up an Excel sheet to follow up on all my expenses and to keep track on the budget left to decide on whether to add another training for myself or not.

Happy Budgeting 🙂
I recently joined a webinar about the Impostor Syndrom amongst the Expat community by Monika Evje. It was really interesting and offered a lot of helpful information, so I did some further research and decided to share my learnings in a blog post.
In my research for my workbook for Expat Partners, I came across many useful facts and figures. I talked to industry leaders and HR experts, and I want to share some of the key trends at the moment that shape the global assignment movement.
